The Neuropsychological Assessment (Testing) Process at Hesed
The prospect of neuropsychological assessment can be daunting and mysterious and, yet, incredibly helpful for helping set an effective treatment trajectory to improve a person’s functioning and well-being. It is our goal in this space to provide a thumbnail sketch of what to expect when getting tested at Hesed Psychological Services, LLC.
Keep in mind that neuropsychological assessment is a multi-step, collaborative and integrative process. The process from start to finish will probably take longer than any previous healthcare diagnostic process you have encountered. That’s normal, and we want you to have an idea of what to expect.
Step 1
The client sets up an intake appointment by calling the office. Prior to the appointment, you will be asked to complete some paperwork through our confidential online portal. During the intake appointment, the examiner will gather information required to guide the testing process and to provide codes for the client’s insurance company.
Step 2 - clients using insurance
The Hesed staff will contact the client’s insurance company with the diagnosis determined by the examiner to pre-authorize testing. This can take up to two weeks. Hesed staff will contact the client to schedule testing once it has been preauthorized.
Step 3
Testing will take one full day for older adolescents and adults. Younger adolescents, children, and older adults will likely be scheduled for two or three testing sessions.
Step 4
Once testing is complete, the examiner and staff will score, interpret, and integrate test results, and write a neuropsychological report. This step can take anywhere from 6 to 8 weeks.
Step 5
Once the report is finished, the Hesed staff will contact the client to set up a feedback session. The feedback session can include adults and older adolescents. Younger adolescents and children generally do not attend.
By providing some explanation of our process for your neuropsychological assessment at Hesed Psychological Services, LLC, we hope that you have a greater sense of what to expect as we partner together on this leg of your journey for greater well-being and health.
